“Home care aides largest occupation in US as of last May, BLS reports,” by Adam Healy, McKnights Home Care
“As of May 2024, home health and personal care aides made up the largest single occupation in the US with 4 million workers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Employment and Wages Summary report released Wednesday. The next highest groups were retail salespeople and fast food counter workers, which each had 3.8 million.”
LTC Comment, Stephen A. Moses, President, Center for Long-Term Care Reform:
All these leading occupations are notoriously low-paying. Will tariffs bring us new high-paying factory jobs? Today’s Wall Street Journal has a column lamenting the lack of young people to fill such occupations: “A Good Man for U.S. Manufacturing Is Hard to Find.” This observation by James Hickman of Schiff Sovereign summed up current industrial policy: “Forget about AI: America is about to be the world leader in socks and underwear.”
