“Family caregiving inflicts emotional, financial toll, new US News survey finds,” by John Roszkowski, McKnights Home Care
Quote:
“More than a quarter of US family caregivers say that the time commitment of caring for an older adult loved one is the equivalent of a full-time job, and 42% report feeling constantly or frequently overwhelmed with caregiving duties, according to a new survey by US News & World Report. Meanwhile, 73% of caregivers surveyed who use a home health agency say they are satisfied with the quality of care they receive, but many still report feeling guilty or overwhelmed with the idea of turning over the care of a loved one to a professional.”
LTC Comment, Stephen A. Moses, President, Center for Long-Term Care Reform:
Many feel guilty about getting help with caregiving? Better that than going without, because they didn’t plan ahead. Having options is better than being stuck with doing it all yourself or relying on Medicaid with all its shortcomings including fraud risk by low-cost providers. Think ahead.
