Birthday Rule Changes
In the state of Indiana, starting March 15, 2026, individuals with a Medicare supplement policy may change coverage each year during a period that begins 31 days before their birthday and ends 31 days after. During this time, an individual may apply for the same type letter of Medicare supplement plan, including any variation of that plan, with a different insurance issuer that offers the coverage.
The new policy must take effect on the first day of the month following the application signature date. Brokers should include documentation verifying the client’s current plan letter and confirming that the new policy matches the same plan type.
