New dashboard breaks down by state, county the number of people using Medicaid HCBS,” by Adam Healy and Liza Berger, McKnights Home Care

“A new dashboard created by ATI Advisory with the support of The SCAN Foundation illustrates Medicaid beneficiaries’ use of home- and community-based services (HCBS) on a state and county-by-county basis. For home care providers, this information is critical given the administration’s focus on cutting spending on Medicaid programs, according to a panel discussion last Tuesday hosted by SCAN. … In 2022, 7 million individuals nationwide used Medicaid LTSS at any point in the year, according to the dashboard. Among these, 6 million individuals (83%) specifically used HCBS. A separate 1.4 million individuals used institutional LTSS.”

LTC Comment, Stephen A. Moses, President, Center for Long-Term Care Reform:

Is growing dependency on a financially strapped welfare program really a good thing? Isn’t the availability of government financed HCBS even more likely to discourage private LTC planning than Medicaid’s traditional nursing home care has?
