“Rogers Victor: America’s senior health crisis needs fresh solutions,” by Kelly Rogers Victor, The Detroit News
“A shortage of healthcare providers compounds the problem. Demand for geriatricians is rising as fewer medical students enter the specialty. Nurses and home-care aides are leaving due to retirement, tough working conditions and higher wages elsewhere. Families today are smaller, geographically dispersed and typically juggling work, limiting their caregiving options. Affordable long-term care is scarce, worsened by Medicaid rules allowing wealthier families to shield assets, as documented by the Center for Long-Term Care Reform.”
LTC Comment, Stephen A. Moses, President, Center for Long-Term Care Reform:
This article is mostly about the power of prevention, but kudos to the author for recognizing the damaging role of Medicaid planning abuse.
