“Study: 82 percent of unpaid caregivers suffer mental health struggles,” by Donna Shryer, McKnights LTC News
A comprehensive study by Caring.com has uncovered alarming mental health statistics among unpaid caregivers in the United States, revealing that more than 82% suffer from anxiety, depression or both conditions. The research found that unpaid caregivers face overwhelming time commitments, with 40% spending over 21 hours per week providing care. … Mental health impacts among unpaid caregivers are severe, according to the study. Nearly half (47.3%) experience anxiety, while 35.3% suffer from both anxiety and depression simultaneously. An additional 17.4% report depression alone. The study suggests these conditions may be linked to multiple factors including financial pressures, personal wellbeing concerns and the emotional toll of watching loved ones struggle with health issues.”
