Study uncovers communication gaps between long-term care insurers, family caregivers,” by Liza Berger, McKnights Home Care

“A small study examining family caregivers of loved ones with long-term care insurance found that insurance policies helped ease the financial strain of caregiving. But the research also revealed communication shortcomings by insurers about specific policies and benefits. ‘Sadly, we learned that insurance companies aren’t doing as good a job of reaching out to family caregivers,’ lead researcher Eileen Tell, a fellow at LeadingAge LTSS Center @UMass Boston, which conducted the study, told McKnight’s Home Care Daily Pulse. ‘They’re paying claims, but they’re not reaching out to let people know that there are even more benefits and supports that these families could be getting that are part of their policy.’ … The Certification for Long-Term Care unveiled findings from its ‘Creating a Path Forward’ study at an annual Leadership Summit last week. Sponsors of the study were Amada Senior Care and Mutual of Omaha.”
